US Presidential Election 2016

Today is a day that will go down in the history books.

I stayed up all night with cup after cup of caffeine to follow the US presidential election results, and to say I was disappointed at the results will be a gross understatement. I AM IN SHOCK!

What will be written remains to be seen, but in the wake of the horrible realisation that Donald Trump could possibly (hopefully not) be the next president of the united states, (I'm still in denial). I know for sure that there's a change in the horizon. I can only hope and pray that it's for the better.

But so far we're not off to a good start. People are protesting, students are walking out of classes, riots are brewing, everyone is asking how and why?

What really gets to me is the fact that Hillary reportedly had more polling votes, but because of the electoral college nonsense she lost the race to possibly the WORST president elect EVER.

How does that happen? When people cast their votes in the presidential election, they are actually casting votes for "electors," who then cast their votes for president. The candidate who wins the state's popular vote gets those electors.

I hope that they scrap the electoral college system, and let one vote be one vote.

Now even though deep down I know this is probably not an option, I want someone to find a reason why Trump should not be sworn in as the 45th president of the united states, or a way to get him impeached. ANYTHING! And I'm also secretly entertaining the idea of Michelle running in 2020.

OK. Rant Over

You may say it doesn't concern you because you're not in America, but it does, it affects all of us in one way or another. Especially those with loved ones, or work ties abroad.

A demonstration of about 6,000 people against Trump blocked traffic in Oakland, California. Protesters threw objects at police in riot gear, burned trash in the middle of an intersection, set off fireworks and smashed store front windows. Police responded by throwing chemical irritants at the protesters, according to a Reuters witness.

Even here in London anti-racist protesters are gathering outside the US Embassy and there were reports of confrontations with members of a right-wing group, although there reportedly were no arrests.

What's worse is all of this could escalate even further if care is not taken. In the wake of Brexit, there's really only so much my heart can take.

But I just want to encourage everyone to stay prayed up, the revelations are beginning to unravel and it is paramount that we act in love and not in hate.

On a lighter note, I saw this today and it honestly made my day.
